Liebster award

I was nominated for the Liebster award by one of my favourite bloggers; Chelsea of I was so surprised when I got the nomination and so grateful as well. Chelsea’s blog is filled with wonderful tips and advice from gift buying to relationships. I absolutely love it. Thank you so much Chelsea for nominating me. I remember seeing nominations like these all the time on other blogs before I started blogging and I always got a little excited for the blogger who was nominated and now its actually my turn to get a bit excited.

The idea behind the Liebster award is simply blogger recognition and appreciation. Accepting the award gives the nominee an opportunity to nominate other bloggers who can then nominate other bloggers.  By accepting the award I  need to share 10 facts about me and answer a few questions as well. So here are 10 very random facts about me.

  1. I watch episodes of Friends over and over again and I never get tired of seeing them.
  2. I don’t like having breakfast. It is really a challenge for me to eat that early in the morning and any time before 10 am is considered too early for me.
  3. I don’t think I am an awesome cook because I never quite know just how things will turn out. They usually turn out pretty good but I am well aware that it could easily go either way.
  4. I learnt to swim when I was 21. When you live on an island everyone assumes you can swim and rightfully so since there are beaches pretty much everywhere but I couldn’t before, but then I signed up for swimming classes and now I have a certificate to prove that I can.
  5. I turned 30 this year and a week ago I got asked for ID when I bought cider at   TESCO.
  6. I still get excited about all the toys and chocolates that are at the stores during Christmas.
  7. I know some people love makeup but for me I love organic skincare products. I don’t think I could ever have enough. I just love trying out new brands but I always go back to my favourites.
  8. I like everything to do with travelling I dot even mind waiting for the flight to arrive.
  9. I order pretty much the exact same thing whenever I go to fast food restaurants. Since I don’t go very often I really can’t be bothered to try whatever is new I rather just stick to what I’m used to.
  10. I have strawberry legs. If you don’t know what that is its the tiny dots that appear all over your legs due to shaving. I think for me it is a mixture of that and keratosis pilaris which has similar appearances on the skin. That is definitely my biggest insecurity.

In addition to sharing 10 random facts about myself Chelsea also asked me a few questions which I will answer below.

Why did you start your blog?

I started my blog because I wanted to share my passions online. I started blogging definitely as a personal form of not just expression but relaxation as well. It can be a bit stressful maintaining a blog but overall it is such a rewarding experience. My advice to new bloggers is to keep at it because you can only ever get better and also to join a community of other bloggers where you can all support and encourage each other.

What is your favorite topic to write about?

Definitely organic skincare. Having beautiful skin has always been a passion  of mine and up until a few years ago I never paid much attention to the ingredients on some of my favorite skincare products. Choosing to take the organic route was one of the best decisions I ever made and I love sharing new brands and products that work for me.

What is your favorite movie?

A walk to remember is one of those beautiful but sad love stories without the predictable happy ending. It speaks of love that one would hope doesn’t just exist in movies.

Name a blogger who inspires you most and why?

Chelsea from blissfully bubbly definitely is an inspiration and its not because of the nomination lol. I love the layout of her blog, her choice of colours and the advice she provides especially on her Marriage Monday posts which I always  look forward to reading. There are so many bloggers who inspire me; I wish I could have selected more than just one but at least I can nominate a few of them.

If you could pick any place to live where would it be and why?

I would have to say St.Lucia because that is where I lived for pretty much all of my life and I will always consider it to be home even if I don’t live there right now.My family lives there and my husband’s family as well. It’s a beautiful island with very lovely people and I simply couldn’t imagine anywhere better than home.

Here are my nominees:

Jess from Jessxclare

Erika from PAE reviews

Kayla from Kayla Loves

El from Exclusory

Kris Marie from Boston Book Reader

Hebah from Hebah Pervaiz

Caitlin from Caitlincx

Becca from Becca Whiting

All of these bloggers inspire me for different reasons and they blog about beauty, lifestyle, books, gaming and all sorts of other things. They are different and all very much worth reading about.

These are the rules for accepting the award.

Top 10 Tips On Turning 30

So now that we have managed to read out that title lol let’s get into this post. Today on December 2nd 2017 I turned 30; and given the fact that I am at home at 8:20 pm typing this post says a bit about what turning 30 looks like (I’m kidding) . This is one of those birthdays where at least one or maybe several people will tell you that you’re getting old. Even if technically you’re only one year older than 29 the absence of the number 2 makes it a big deal apparently.I don’t feel old at all, it’s just that I tend to enjoy makeup free days, spent doing absolutely nothing a lot more than I used to. I think this is why I chose this picture rather than one with me all glammed up with an inflated number 3 and number 0 suspended somewhere over my head.(no offence to others who choose to go that way I just can’t pull it off) So just in case you are about to turn 30, already 30 or wishing you could be 30 again here are my top 10 tips.

  1. Prioritize: Although you probably should not wait until you are 30 to do this but if you aren’t already there’s no better time than the present.I know everyone will be telling you that your biological clock is ticking but what this tip is really about is recognising how you are spending your time and whether the things that you are doing are actually worth your time anyway. Are you spending too much time on social media sites? Are you spending too much time in a relationship that isn’t going anywhere or are you not spending enough time doing the things that matter like spending time with family or spending time doing the things you love.

2. Organise your finances: If you haven’t already, start thinking about setting aside something for your retirement, medical bills or if you’re married consider a joint account to put towards your home or vacations or your next vehicle. Consider clearing or reducing your credit card bill. There is so much information online for ways to minimise spending and increase savings. It’s all about making the effort to improve the look of your bank account balance.

3. Wellbeing: With age comes different levels of responsibility. Maybe you have a husband, or children, a mortgage or student loan or maybe you are battling an illness; whatever the case may be, the truth is that life never ceases to present challenges, and these vary greatly from the ones you may have endured in your teens. It’s important to focus on your wellbeing  whether it is through spirituality, meditation, yoga, or your personal methods for self care, just be sure to do something that works for you.

4. Health: Eating well , sleeping well and exercise. If my husband ever read this he would probably wonder why I am not taking my own advice because I am so guilty of ignoring all 3, but your body tells you when you are lacking in any of these areas and you will notice if you pay attention to it. Although I am not the healthiest eater and there are days when I go on just 4 hours of sleep and I have donated to a gym or two lol I do try .

5.Fitness: Although I mentioned this previously I think its important to make this a tip all on its own. Maybe like me you cannot commit to a gym, but try working out at home especially if your job is not physically demanding .You will notice that your metabolism is not what it was before  and that extra milkshake will give you a bulge that wont just magically disappear in the morning like it used to so developing a lifestyle that includes fitness is definitely something you need to do.

6. Career: Are you already doing what you love? Are you in a job that challenges you? Are you making enough? Is there something else that you would rather be doing? Ask yourself these questions. Don’t delay your desire for more out of life.

7. Anti ageing Skin care: I got mixed reviews online on the best time to start using anti ageing products. I think you will notice the difference in your skin and know when you need to upgrade your skin care regimen. If nothing else invest in a good sunscreen. This is one product that I believe is critical to preserving that youthful glow.

8. Fall in love with yourself: You have had 30 years on this earth and if that wasn’t enough time to make you love you then maybe you need to start talking to yourself like you would someone you love. Give yourself compliments. Buy yourself something nice every once in a while; just be good to you.

9. Travel: I have always wanted to go to Paris. Maybe its the movies I’ve seen or maybe because I just love a bit of over the top romance every now and then; but its one of those places I’d love to go to. It’s refreshing and relaxing to experience new cultures with that special someone or just on your own. It gives you the opportunity to just unwind outside of the routine of life.

10. Don’t be too hard on yourself: These are just tips. They are tips that I constantly need to remind myself of because I am nowhere near perfect . I remember watching an episode of Friends once when Rachel turned 30 and she was trying to work out how much time she had left to have a baby. There’s absolutely no need to do that to yourself. I am 30 and yes I am married but I don’t have any children yet, my finances are not perfect, I don’t have abs, I don’t have a perfect a job and I am ok with that. I saw this quote once on Pintrest and I will end this post on that note. Your story is unique and so so different and not worthy of comparison. Always love and appreciate yourself for who you are. Here’s to 30!!!!!!!

Please let me know what you think and feel free to share some tips of your own in the comments below.

Ezape Naturals Rosemary Body Butter

Vanessa from Ezape Naturals is a qualified beauty therapist with a passion for health and beauty; so when I came across her range of luxurious organic skincare I was very eager to try them. During winter my skin gets extremely dry and itchy so an ordinary body lotion does little to nothing for me. As the seasons change so does my moisturiser. According to her website her products are natural and effective for dry sensitive skin with 100% natural ingredients and 99% certified organic ingredients.

I have been using this moisturiser for about 2 weeks now and I love the benefits that I am gaining from the following ingredients.

  • Organic Shea Butter: Highly moisturising to dry skin, reduces inflammation and provides relief to dry itchy skin. It also reduces irritation and bumps.

  • Organic Coconut oil: Natural antibacterial and anti fungal. It prevents premature ageing and seals in moisture.

  • Organic Sunflower Oil: Very hydrating to the skin with omega 3 6 and 9. All three of these help prevent and reduce inflammation, protect against infection and reduce the signs of ageing.

  • Organic Rosemary Oil: Protects against sun damage .

  • Vitamin E: Provides skin with the necessary moisture as well as antioxidants for intense healing.

Aside from what ‘s in it, the body butter itself is pearl white in colour and  melts into the skin without that sticky feel which is quite common with body butters. You can smell the rosemary but the smell doesn’t linger once applied.

Directions: Vanessa advises that the body butter be used after a bath or shower 3 times daily, but it worked well for me with only two applications; one in the morning and the other before bed.

The only downside for me is the coconut oil. The body butter is perfect for my upper body but when applied to my legs because of the comedogenic properties of coconut oil it seemed to make the bumps on my legs (strawberry legs) more obvious so this is one thing to bear in mind when choosing a body butter. Overall I would definitely repurchase because of how moisturising this body butter is. I use it on my entire upper body and feet as well and it keeps me moisturised all day. The body butter is available here. Feel free to check out Vanessa at @ezapenaturals for more of her amazing organic skincare products. What products do you use to moisturise your skin?

Organic Shop Strawberry Jam Deep Cleansing Body Scrub

As you may have already guessed this is a skincare product review; well more specifically body care review. When I decided to take the organic skincare route I didn’t expect it to be an easy one because from the moment you make that decision it’s no longer about pretty packaging or what products smell like, or even feel like but it becomes more about what’s actually  in them. Sometimes it can be a little frustrating giving up brands that you once loved simply because you now understand that they may not be the best choice because of some of the ingredients. When I came across organic shop uk and I saw all the pretty colours and all those options for body scrubs, shampoos and body butters I was in love!!
The strawberry jam deep cleansing body scrub looks and smells like strawberry jam. There are literally chunks of strawberries  in every handful. My skin felt so soft and smooth and the smell of fresh strawberries lingered even after I got out of the shower; which was nice because strawberries are rather scarce during winter so I absolutely loved it! The brand offers products free of common nasties including parabens, SLS, mineral oils and GMOs. They are totally against animal testing and the packaging is recyclable as well. Sounds awesome right?
Remember what I said about the frustrations of taking the organic route? Well here is where it gets frustrating. There were a few ingredients that I would have preferred to have been left out. The MIPA-Laureth sulphate for example, parfum and the colourants as well. I contacted the brand and expressed my concerns and was told that the MIPA- Laureth sulphate it contains is the least amount possible whilst still allowing the scrub to perform as a cleanser. I do love it when brands take us, the consumers seriously!!!
Despite the few ingredients that I was not too happy about here are those which made me smile:
  • Organic Strawberry Extract: Nourishes and soothes your skin.

  • Organic Black Currant Extract and Acai: Help detoxify your skin.

  • Raspberries and Lingonberry Seed Oil: Provide deep cleansing that leaves the skin supple and elastic.
My advice is this; if your skin care routine is  100% organic with no exception and zero tolerance this line isn’t for you but if you are thinking of considering organic skin care this is a very affordable way to start. The options are endless and the ingredients are way more skin friendly than the popular brands like The body shop here in the UK or Bath and Body works in the US.
So by all means newbie organics go check out @organicshopuk and try them out for yourself before picking up that ever so tempting popular brand. Charlotte is really helpful if you are unsure of what you should get. The products are very affordable and this scrub retails at £9.99 for a 450 ml jar which should last a very long time. It’s an excellent Christmas gift option as well for all those thinking of trying out a new line.
Let me know what you guys think in the comments below. Thank you as always for stopping by.
Disclaimer: The product was gifted in exchange for my honest review.

The Versatile Blogger Award

I guess you can tell by the title that this post has something to do with this award. Sooooo I got nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award four times!!!!! I am so very grateful to have been nominated and I would like to say a very special thank you to PAE Reviews,Jess,Fiona, and Katie. I love all of their blogs and you should definitely check them out.

As part of the rules of the nomination I am meant to share 7 facts about myself so here goes.

My 7 Facts

  • I love pink I always have and I know its extremely girly but I just gravitate to anything pink and in my opinion rose gold is like the adult version of girly pink if that makes any sense at all. I’ve always said that if ever I have a baby girl her room is going to be the room I always wanted because I don’t think my husband would appreciate me throwing pink everywhere in our bedroom lol.
  • I never try clothes on when I go out shopping. I honestly find it a hassle to take my clothes off in a store and try stuff on so I buy them and try them on when I get home.
  • Dessert is my favourite part of the meal  lol so I usually order something really light as a main course so I can really enjoy dessert.
  • I would rather a text than a call. I don’t know why but whenever my phone rings I’m like NOOOOOOO lol I don’t even know if that might be a little mean maybe it is. I just prefer to talk face to face and if we are apart just send me a quick  message.
  • I was in a long distance relationship for 8 years we are married now and if you’re wondering how that worked out seeing that I prefer messages to actual phone calls there are exceptions to the rule lol my mom for example; she would call and  I would rather talk to her over the phone as well.
  • I am originally from St.Lucia but I live in the UK now and I have been for a little over a year.
  • I am fluent in English and patois. Patois or creole is the second language spoken in St. Lucia. If you ever visit and realise that you don’t always understand what the people are saying it’s our second language lol.

And the nominees for the versatile blogger award are (lol I always wanted to announce nominations)

The rules are simple nominees simply have to;

  • Thank the person who nominated you and link their blog.
  • Nominate 15 bloggers for the award.
  • Share 7 facts about yourself.

Thank you for reading and a special thank you to all the ladies who nominated me. I am truly grateful. Xx

Lemonade honey lemon face scrub

Lemonade Honey -Lemon Face Scrub

I came across NXG while scrolling through a friend’s pics on instagram. When it comes to skincare I love all things natural and generally I love all things pink and this brand gave me both these things. After going through their site the lemonade honey lemon face scrub seemed absolutely delightful and a definite “ must have”I have prepared loads of diy honey and lemon scrubs but I have always felt that they were a bit too harsh for my skin. I have been using this lemonade face scrub for about two weeks now and it is anything but harsh. It has a lovely citrusy scent and it really does smell like something edible lol but please save all the goodness for your skin. The packaging is very simple. It is a basic white plastic jar with a silver metal lid.

Upon application it has a bit of a sticky feel but through continuous circular motions on the face it just melts in.The ingredients and directions are included on the product info card that is emailed (yay for saving paper) after your purchase.I loved how smooth my skin felt after and the glow that it has provided with continuous use. When I opened the jar I was very impressed with the layer of golden honey above all those tiny exfoliating crystals below. All the ingredients serve a purpose and there are no potentially harsh additives included.

Honey – full of antioxidants which provide anti ageing benefits, it is a natural antibacterial which is great for acne sufferers and it is highly moisturising.

Sea salt-excellent exfoliant and also helps to cleanse pores deeply and balance oil production.

Lemon Peel- this ingredient not only adds to the yummy scent but it also enhances the clarity, glow and softness of the skin.

Turmeric –antioxidant, anti inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

Annatto Seed-high in antioxidants and also helps to fight sun damage.

Vitamin C-antioxidant properties and also plays a role in collagen synthesis.

Lemon Essential Oil- helps improve the overall complexion and helps fade dark spots

Grapefruit Essential Oil soothing and cleansing and helps to detoxify the skin

Vitamin E- anti ageing properties by supporting new skin cell growth and speeding up cell regeneration.

Overall I am really loving this face scrub and the 60 ml jar is definitely well worth the price of $30 ec. Agnes, the owner says that it will soon be available in the U.K so this is something to look forward to as I only visit home once a year. It is definitely a brand worth trying if you are interested in all natural skin care. Check out or @notoxgirls to see for yourself.

Finding Myself

Ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu is quoted as saying he who knows others is wise. He who knows himself is enlightened. How do you know when you have found yourself? What does finding yourself mean and how does it affect your overall sense of wellbeing? Doesn’t finding yourself imply that at some point you lost yourself or could it be that we are all born lost and the ultimate purpose of life is to find yourself. I think that when you have truly discovered who you really are and accepted that person as “self”then it becomes easier to trust that person and you begin to rely a bit less on the opinion of others.

It’s difficult to know or understand who we truly are if from birth we are exposed to some of the key agents of socialisation. I don’t know who I would have been if I was born and raised in the United Kingdom to atheist parents as opposed to being born in St.Lucia in a Christian household. Normally, when people go to find themselves they seek the exact opposite of what surrounds them whether that is in terms of religion or geographical location or even sexuality.I must confess that I have never embarked on any such self seeking journey. What I have done however, is I’ve begun a series of sessions with a personal empowerment coach for women . My empowerment coach Xerces,Here defines empowerment coaching for women as a way of helping women feel their best in mind, body, spirit and business. To be able to reach the depths of a woman that can’t be reached through just any form of coaching but to help her understand who she is and to break free from any confinement that has kept her unhappy in life. I have only just started my sessions so it is a bit early to provide a detailed review but I am thoroughly enjoying it thus far. I think that one of the main requirements for embarking on a self seeking journey is the ability to be completely honest with yourself and to lay yourself completely bare and open to the possibly harsh realities of self assessment .

I think when a person has found himself his thoughts will no longer be clouded by fear or the opinions of others  but it would be replaced with a sense of understanding capable of providing the much needed confidence and strength needed to face the challenges of this life. If you have found yourself  I believe your life will no longer be a reflection of someone else’s and your feelings will not be mirrored by your surroundings. It’s very difficult to attempt to discuss a topic as vast as this in a single post but I am very interested in what you think or whether you’ve ever thought of it at all .

Would life be perfect once you have found yourself? I don’t think so. What I do believe is that you wouldn’t stay in an unhappy marriage for 30 years or remain in a job that made you miserable till you were old enough to retire. When you truly understand who you are I believe that you also develop a keen sense of self preservation. I think that there is a positive correlation between finding yourself and true happiness and once found you will perhaps experience an unwavering joy that you feel at your very core.

Boo Boo Gel Review

Me and my Boo Boo

I don’t believe that this is the actual meaning behind the name but to me, it’s my beauty boo times two. I absolutely love this product. I may not be vegan but my skin pretty much is.

The official painted earth website describes Boo Boo gel as a natural anti inflammatory blemish banisher, to soothe, heal and nourish skin. It is also said to dramatically reduce the appearance of pores. Win Win!!!!

Directions: Apply after moisturiser for acne directly on the area. It can be applied several times a day.

Acne is not an issue for me but the ingredients in Boo Boo gel were very impressive and because of the benefits to the skin I was intrigued. The following ingredients and their uses were what really made me fall in love with Boo Boo gel.

Anti ageing:

  • MSM
  • Organic Gotu Kola
  • Horsetail
  • Dandelion

Anti Inflammatory:

  • Peppermint essential oil
  • Colloidal silver
  • Organic Arnica
  • Organic green tea
  • Wild geranium

The aloe vera gel helps to treat sunburn, the menthol provides a wonderful cooling sensation perfect for summer weather and the organic licorice diminishes the appearance of dark under eye circles, discolouration and age spots.

Most people fear gel formulations because of drying skin ingredients like alcohol but with boo boo gel you are offered a cool minty freshness which is a perfect wake me up in the morning. I don’t think you can expect all day hydration from one application as it is very lightweight so its better to apply a few times a day. It’s perfectly fine under makeup as it is easily absorbed into the skin without any greasy residue.

I only wish that there was a squeeze bottle option. I always prefer these to jars when it comes to skin care products as it’s more hygienic. This is really my only issue but overall I love Boo Boo Gel and it has definitely found a permanent place in my skin care regime. You can find it here. It retails at about £19. Currently not available in the UK, hint hint Joanne but they do offer international shipping. Hope you try it out. You won’t be disappointed.

Finding happiness

One night in the middle of vacuuming and doing the laundry I put on a little music (Fields of gold- Sting) and in that moment I allowed my mind to wander as I often do lol. To be perfectly honest I think it is easier to be miserable than it is to be happy. There’s just something about sadness that seems to linger and something about happiness that just never seems to last long enough. This is what I do to help mine last a little longer or at least to happen a bit more often. Continue reading “Finding happiness”

The media has done a great job making the ideal more desirable than perhaps ever before and for those of us who feel like we look nothing like it, the journey there can be a long and frustrating one.Who doesn’t want to be told that they’re glowing? I have always had very dry and sensitive skin. Acne was never an issue for me but if I ever did get a pimple most definitely an unsightly dark spot would follow. We all love instant gratification but when it comes to skincare patience is usually a requirement. Continue reading “Siskyn”
